As far as collaborations go, Manolo Blahnik is not short of creatives lining up to work with him. (Remember the Rihanna tie-up?) His latest was not the most obvious partner for the high-heel connoisseur who keeps Carrie Bradshaw in stilettos, but Manolo x Birkenstock’s sandal drop was an instant sellout. Well, fans of the first collection will be happy to hear that, this June, it’s is back for another round.

While the first drop embraced velvet and diamanté detailing, the second instalment focuses on Birkenstock’s classic Arizonas and Bostons rendered in monochrome polka dot and minimalist PVC. So, make sure to mark June 23rd in your diaries, because something tells us that this collection won’t stick around for long.

In the meantime, we’ve brought you a sneak peek of some of the styles that will be available to buy later this month. Scroll down to seem more.

“I have worn them most of my life!” Blahnik, a closet Boston clog fan, tells Vogue. “My niece Kristina and I featured in the 2020 Personality Campaign which was wonderful fun. This collaboration was a natural next step – I’m totally thrilled with the result.”

Clearly the German sandal favourite, which became the unsung brand of lockdown, has more in common with Mr Blahnik’s hyper-glamorous world than first meets the eye. “Birkenstock has genuine authenticity and continually remains true to its values,” explains the man who was scouted by Diana Vreeland when he was a budding set designer. “We have a shared love of artisanry and ensuring that fit is exquisite – these values are at the heart of everything we both do.”

So which Birks has Blahnik been living in all this time? “Back in the ’70s I bought the Arizonas from Bongenie Grieder in Geneva and wore them for an entire summer – they barely left my feet,” he shares. “Now, I mostly wear them in my garden as they are incredibly comfortable, and the craftsmanship is simply divine – they last a lifetime. Personally, I wear mine with socks from Paul Smith.” Stock up in time for the Manolo Blahnik for Birkenstock drop on 23 June at Manoloblahnik.com and MyTheresa.com.
